KOBASIUK AND SCOTT NAMED FALL ECC SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Central Islip, NY- Diane Kobasiuk of the Women's Tennis team and
Kelly Scott of the Volleyball team have been named Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports for their work on the court and in the classroom.
Kobasiuk earns this honor for the second straight year as she finished her senior season with an overall record of 8-1 in third-flight singles and 6-1 in doubles play, which earned her a spot on the ECC All-Conference Second-Team. With these impressive stats,
Diane helped the Golden Lions to the ECC Conference Championship Finals and advanced to the ITA/Regional Finals in B Singles earlier in the season.
Diane will graduate with a degree in Mathematics Education while holding above a 3.9 GPA.
Scott, a middle blocker on the Volleyball team,
averaged 2.13 kills and .88 blocks per game in 106 total games for the Golden Lions in her senior year. Her .340 hitting percentage and 92 total blocks were good for third and second in the ECC, respectively. This year, Scott helped guide Dowling to an ECC Regular Season title, an East Region Championship Title and their fourth trip to the Elite Eight in five years. Scott was also named Dowling’s Teachers Federal Credit Union Scholar-Athlete of the month in November 2009. She finishes her two-year career at Dowling with a .335 overall hitting percentage which places her at 6th place in program history. She is finishing up a dual degree in Anthropology/Sociology and Biology and holds above a 3.6 GPA.
