Gabriel Duran (Brooklyn, NY) has been recognized in the "Faces in the Crowd" feature in the July 6, 2009 issue of Sports Illustrated.
Duran earned recognition in Sports Illustrated after putting together arguably the best season by a pitcher in Dowling College history. He was named the 2009 Daktronics and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Year, while also earning First Team All-American honors from Daktronics, Rawlings/ABCA, and the NCBWA. Duran set a program record with 10 wins and was also third in the nation in ERA at 1.30.
Duran becomes the fourth Golden Lion to be featured in "Faces in the Crowd", joining Marta Slodnik (Volleyball, 2003), Morten Jensen (Men's Soccer, 2004), and Marcus Come (Men's Soccer, 2007).
