The Tobacco Action Coalition of Long Island honored Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, Patricia Cronin.  The award honors tobacco control champions on Long Island.

Dowling College is the first college in the country to declare nicotine as a banned substance and to regularly test for it along with other substances.

On behalf of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services Patricia Bishop-Kelly, Director of Public Information and Education for Suffolk County Department of Health Services states, "we celebrate and congratulate Trish Cronin on this Award!  There is no one better equipped to help determine the urgent needs of students on Dowling's campus!"

According to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, "New statistics have shown alarming increases in young adult smoking."  At Dowling College however, we have a champion in our corner, Trish Cronin.  As a result of her pioneering efforts the Tobacco Action Coalition offers a free cessation program to any student who either self identifies him or herself as a tobacco user or who is tested and found positive for nicotine.  Patricia Bishop-Kelly also states that, "By helping to organize and secure the new on campus, Tobacco Education and Cessation programs for Dowling students, Trish has helped begin to reduce the number of Dowling Students who would otherwise become or remain addicted to the powerful drug nicotine."

After receiving the award Trish Cronin responded by saying, "It is a honor to be recognized outside of Dowling, but accepts the award on behalf of the whole staff that made this honor possible by embracing the initiative with their hard work and dedication."
