Leonard Lans (Spring Valley, NY) of the Men's Basketball team and
Rachael Goldstein (Ridge, NY) of the Women's Lacrosse team have been named the East Coast Conference Scholar - Athlete of the Year for their respective sports.
Lans compiled a 3.53 GPA during his four years at Dowling and graduated with a degree in Management and Leadership. On the court this season, he helped guide the Golden Lions to the Semifinals of the ECC Basketball Tournament, ranking second on the team in rebounds (135) and third in steals (30). The two year Golden Lions' captain has been a leader both on and off the court as he is an integral member of the Dowling Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Working towards a degree in psychology,
Goldstein boasts a nearly perfect 3.95 GPA. The starting goalkeeper had a breakout season for the Golden Lions, ranking third in the ECC in saves per game (8) and save percentage (.456).
Goldstein helped Dowling to a 9-4 record in their second year of existence which included two wins against nationally ranked opponents during the regular season.
East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recipients are nominated by their institution and voted upon by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each ECC instiution.
Five other Dowling student-athletes were named to the ECC Honor Roll.

Stephanie Plochochi (Softball),
Simona Bartkova (Women's Basketball), and
Roy Pfleger (Men's Lacrosse) all earned a spot on the Honor Roll.
