Oakdale, NY- 5 members of the Dowling Men's Lacrosse team have received Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Division II All-American honors for the upcoming 2010 season as announced by insidelacrosse.com.
Earning first team honors is senior attack
John McClure. The 2009 season saw
McClure have the best season of his career thus far as he led all of Division II in goals per game (4.15), total goals (54), and ranking 4th in the nation in points per game (5.15). Also an ECC All-Conference First Team member,
McClure led his team to a 7-6 overall finish this year. John would go on to receive USILA All-American honorable mention honors for his efforts last year.
Also making the first team is 2009 USILA DII Long Pole Midfielder of the Year,
Joe Biondolillo. Having been named a First Team All-American by the USILA last year as well,
Biondolillo also earned ECC All-Conference First Team honors in 2009. This past season,
Joe anchored the Dowling midfield as he went on to start in all 13 games of the season. Earning 11 points through 5 goals and 6 assists,
Biondolillo also managed 53 ground balls on the season, good for third on the team. His 20 caused turnovers in 2009 placed him at second on Dowling's squad.
Making the second team is 2009 USILA second team All-American,
Kyle Rubisch, a senior defender. Also making the ECC All-Conference First Team and the Inside Lacrosse pre-season All-American Second Team last year,
Rubisch added some great depth to the back line for the Golden Lions in 2009. His 23 caused turnovers led Dowling in 2009 while his 48 ground balls placed him 4th on the team.
Rubisch would earn the Ontario Lacrosse Association's (OLA) Most Outstanding Defender award for his exceptional play with the Brampton Excelsiors as well as making the OLA All-Star First Team. In addition, he would be named the NLL Insider JOTY Defender of the Year and was named to the All-Canadian First Team.
Earning honorable mention honors is senior attack
Kyle O'Brien.
O'Brien would have a strong 2009 as he would go on to lead the team in assists (31) while ranking 2nd in goals (20). In the ECC,
Kyle would rank 5th in assists per game (2.38) and 7th in points per game (3.92).
Also making honorable mention status is junior goalkeeper
Ryan Dougherty. Starting in all 13 games for the Golden Lions in 2009,
Dougherty would finish the season with a .576 save percentage. His 11.08 saves per game would rank him 3rd in the ECC.
In addition to the Preseason All-Americans being announced, Dowling would be ranked 7th in the Division II Preseason Top 10 after going 7-6 overall last year.
