Oakdale, NY- Three Golden Lions have been named to the Daktronics All-East Region Men's Soccer team as
Juan Vargas,
Lamine Traore, and
Moussa Keita received the honors this past week.
Vargas, a 2009 All-Conference First Team member and ECC Defensive Player of the Year, earns a spot on the All-East Region Second team during his senior season at Dowling after anchoring the Golden Lions defense this year. Leading the ECC's top defensive squad,
Vargas would help Dowling top conference categories in goals against average (.95) and goals allowed (1.00/game) while leading his team to a 13-5-1 finish with an undefeated 10-0 record at home.
Traore, a 2008 All-East Region First Team member and Third Team All-American, would claim a 2009 Second Team spot for his efforts on the Dowling offense this year. Leading the team with 11 goals,
Lamine would also tie a school record for his 4 goal performance in a 5-1 victory over Queens College in the ECC semifinals.
Traore finishes the season ranked third in the ECC in points (27) and goals (11). Traore would also make the All-Conference First Team this year.
As a 2008 Third Team All-American,
Keita was voted to the 2009 All-East Region Second Team after earning ECC First Team honors as well. Despite missing the last half of the season to injury,
Keita still ranks 4th in the ECC in game winning goals (3). He would also rank 3rd on the team with 5 goals.
Keita finishes his career ranked in the top 10 in career games played as a Golden Lion.
