Bridgeport, CT - Senior forward
Vanessa Moreira (Selden, NY) and graduate midfielder
Kate Collins (North Caldwell, NJ) have been named to the Women's Soccer Daktronics All-Region squad.
Moreira was named to the First Team, while
Collins garnered Second Team Honors.
Moreira and
Collins are among seven players from East Coast Conference teams to be named All-Region. A total of 13 institutions are represented on the All-Region teams. The College of St. Rose tops the list with four selections, followed by Franklin Pierce, Holy Family University, and the University of Bridgeport with three each.
By being selected to the All-Region First Team, Moreira automatically will be placed on the All-American ballot. The All-American teams are scheduled for release on December 1.
Moreira earns First Team honors after already being named the East Coast Conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
In 19 games of action,
Moreira would lead the ECC in goals (15), assists (12), and points (42). A clutch player all season long, she would tally seven game winning goals. Four of the seven would come in overtime, including the decisive goal in Dowling's 1-0 ECC Semifinal victory over C.W. Post.
Moreira finshes her career in a Golden Lions uniform as the program's all-time leader in goals (69), assists (29), and points (167).
Kate Collins earns Second Team All-Region honors in her only season as a Golden Lion. A graduate student who came from Stony Brook University, Collins made an immediate impact in Dowling's midfield.
Collins finished the season with 3 goals and 8 assists. Her 8 assists ranked her second on the team and third in the East Coast Conference.
